Self Study Week 1

I made the barrel following the tutorial. Darkening segments of the barrel to represent planks and using the line method on the top of the barrel.

After that I made a model based on a sculpture at MONA, a viewport that lets one see the sky from within the museum. Unfortunately, I was unable to go there in person due to scheduling and transport issues, so I sourced a reference image from the internet. Using that reference image I placed 2 circle meshes to act as marker of where my model would need to be.

Then, I tried to use the solidify modifier on a cylinder with no faces on either end, and transforming the vertices on to into place. This lead to my biggest difficulty with this model, in that solidified cylinder had not vertices on its internal ring and would therefore twist that ring in weird ways.

Eventually, I settled on a solution of extruding the model into place after using the inset faces tool to add a small indent into the centre of model, meaning that indent would have vertices, and afterwards, transforming the extruded model into place with my reference guides before smoothing it.

Then, I made a landscape including a path and 4 patches of yet to be textured grass, the path began as cylinder which, which I extruded in 4 directions cleanly with the knife tool.

After that, I made 4 stretched out rectangles which I made perfectly with the path using the Boolean modifier.

I then created a pattern atop these rectangles by using the knife tool the mark hatches along the surface, then transforming the newly created vertices.

I then textured the model by first adding a base goat, then some smudging, and finally some scratchy detail in line with what I saw in the reference image.

And that was that.
